Usher joins Jermaine Dupri, Lil Jon, T.I., Jeezy and more for the soon to premiere VH1 Rock Doc “ATL: The Untold Story of Atlanta’s Rise In The Rap Game.”

Slated to premiere Tuesday, September 2 at 10 p.m., ‘ATL’ is a 90 minute documentary exploring the rich and complex untold story of Atlanta’s rise to the top in hip-hop and beyond.

‘“ATL: The Untold Story of Atlanta’s Rise in the Rap Game” uncovers the epic story of an American city’s evolution, from segregation to the Atlanta of today, which has now been nicknamed “Black Hollywood.” VH1 tells the story of how Atlanta’s modern-day rap dominance emerged from the struggle to break away from the genre’s contemporary leaders in Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx in New York and from South Central and Compton on the west coast,” reports VH1. “The ATL rap movement was helped along by social and political icons and ATL interviewees such as Ambassador Andrew Young, Mayor Kasim Reed and Dominique Wilkins. Blending all of these perspectives, “ATL: The Untold Story of Atlanta’s Rise in the Rap Game” is a truly unique story that reveals how Atlanta justly earned the mantle of hip-hop dominance and can now command the reputation as hip-hop’s center of gravity.”

In addition to Usher, the documentary will feature interviews and commentary from Atlanta’s mega-stars including Ludacris, T.I., Jeezy, Lil Jon, Future, Jermaine Dupri and pioneers of rap Kilo Ali, Raheem the Dream, MoJo, MC Shy D and the producers of Organized Noize (who discovered two 17-year old kids who went by the name “Outkast”).

“ATL: The Untold Story of Atlanta’s Rise in the Rap Game” premieres Tuesday, Sep. 2 at 10 pm on VH1.

Usher knows a thing or two about great VMA performances and on Sunday, August 24, the multiplatinum selling singer will make his return to MTV’s big show when he hits the stage at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards at the Forum in Inglewood, California at 9 p.m. ET.

Performing live is the purest form of musical expression and I am damn happy to return to the VMA stage with new music,” the “Confessions” singer told MTV in a press release issued on Wednesday (July 9).

Ariana Grande and 5 Seconds of Summer will also perform, but while those two acts will make their main show performance debut, Usher will be adding on to an established VMA legacy.

In 2004, he rocked a mash-up of “Confessions” and “Yeah” and in 2010 Usher delivered an energetic performance of “OMG” and “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love.” So there is no doubt that he will rock the house again.

R&B star Usher has refused the chance to defend his protegee Justin Bieber following his racist joke scandal, fleeing in a car when he was asked to comment on the furor.

The Baby singer issued a public apology on Sunday after the emergence of footage showing him using the ‘N-word’ and grinning in amusement.

The clip sparked outrage, and Bieber later called it a “reckless and immature mistake”, adding that he was just 15 years old when the video was shot and he “didn’t understand the power of certain words and how they can hurt”.

His famous pals, including boxer Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and rapper Soulja Boy, have stepped up to defend the troubled star over the controversy, but Usher – who has mentored the singer since he was an unknown teenager – pointedly declined the chance to speak out for his young charge on Monday.

Usher speaks on the song he and Chris Brown did for his upcoming album, as well as commenting on the contact he’s had with Chris since he’s been in jail.

Chris Brown may be locked up, but his presence in the R&B game is still strong. The singer’s Ty Dolla $ign-penned track, “Loyal” is currently tearing up the clubs, and even got the full video treatment. One of many cameos in the clip is from Usher, who revealed in a recent interview that he and Chris will have a collaboration on his new album.

“The song that we did together, I think it answers a lot of questions,” he told Revolt. “There’s a lot mystery I think about a lot of things and the reality is we all are human. And though we may all experience hardship, it’s in those times that people should really rally and remember why you fell in love with the artist, why you fell in love with the person.”

What do you get when you mix Ed Sheeran and Usher? Musical magic…or at least that’s what we hope.

While promoting his upcoming album, Multiply, on BBC Radio 1, Sheeran divulged that he and the “Good Kisser” singer recently cut a track together after bonding last month, calling the meet-up a “random experience.”

“I was at a Passover dinner and sat next to Usher, it was quite random. I met him once before, but never enough to be like ‘Yo what’s up man?’ but he went over to me with his phone and he’s like ‘Yo check it out’ and he downloaded ‘Sing,’ ” Sheeran recalled. And he was like ‘Yo, man, do you want to get in the studio sometime?’ and I was like ‘Yes, Usher, I would love to get into the studio sometime.”

Sheeran, who performed “One” and “Tenerife” during the broadcast, revealed that he didn’t want to waste time getting in touch with “The Voice” coach, even texting him at 1 a.m. to join him in the booth.

R&B star Usher has been paying closer attention to his son’s diet after he was diagnosed with diabetes.

The singer has not revealed which of his two boys is suffering from the blood sugar disease, but he admits the health condition has taken its toll in the past year, as he also mourned the loss of his beloved grandmother.

He tells NBC’s “Today,” “This year has been really one of my hardest years – I lost my grandmother, my son was diagnosed as being a type one diabetic. It has definitely been a difficult one for me, man.”

And Usher admits he spends a lot of his spare time reading up on his son’s dietary requirements to ensure he is staying healthy, even when he’s on the set of “The Voice,” on which he serves as a judge.

He adds, “Sometimes you’re looking at me and we’re off camera, and I’m online looking at numbers, trying to make sure he’s eating properly. It’s crazy.”

Usher is father to 6-year-old Usher Raymond V and 5-year-old Naviyd, from his marriage to stylist Tameka Foster.

WENDELL — A presentation punctuated by impromptu rap battles introduced Wendell Middle School eighth-graders on Wednesday to a new Wake County program — backed by R&B star Usher — that looks at careers in the music industry.

The students got a taste of the Music Industry Leadership 101 curriculum developed by Usher’s youth organization, New Look Foundation, that will be the foundation for a new career pathway for high schoolers in the Wake County school system.

Wake is introducing the program this week to Wendell Middle and the Wake Young Men’s Leadership Academy. The program will also be piloted at eight other Wake schools: Holly Ridge Middle School; Cary, Enloe, East Wake, Heritage, Millbrook, Phillips and Southeast Raleigh high schools.

If all goes as planned, said Marlo Gaddis, the school system’s director of instructional technology and library media services, Wake County will offer the full program by the 2015-16 school year. Wake is one of six districts nationally, and the only one in North Carolina, that’s piloting Usher’s program.
